Jaipur: A 17-year-old girl from West Bengal, who had been missing since June, was rescued, Monday, from a spa centre in Jaipur’s Jalupura area in a joint operation by West Bengal Police and Jaipur Police. Investigators suspect she was trafficked to the city on the false promise of a job.The girl went missing from the Dinhata police station area in Cooch Behar district on June 18. After her parents lodged a missing person complaint, investigators tracked her mobile phone, which led them to Jaipur. West Bengal Police then sought assistance from Jaipur Police and child rights NGOs to trace her.A senior Jaipur Police officer said a team from West Bengal, accompanied by the girl’s mother, reached Jaipur on Sunday and launched a search operation. Her mobile location kept shifting between Pratap Nagar, Sanganer and Jalupura before police finally traced and rescued her from a spa centre Monday.Police said the girl, who studied up to Class IX, told investigators that a youth known to her in Dinhata persuaded her to come to Jaipur by promising her a good job. After she reached the city, he allegedly handed her over to one of his associates, identified as Karan.Police suspect the teenager was a victim of human trafficking and are probing the role of those involved in bringing her to Jaipur. After completing legal formalities, the girl is expected to be taken back to West Bengal, Wednesday.
