Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is launching a green energy push by installing rooftop solar plants at six sewage treatment plants and two gardens along Dravyavati River. Officials expect the project to cut electricity expenses and ease pressure on the public exchequer. If successful, JDA plans to extend solar installations to other public assets under its maintenance across the city soon.The project is estimated to generate around 20,000 units of solar power every day, approximately 6 lakh units per month and nearly 72 lakh units annually. At an average electricity tariff of Rs 8.50 per unit, the project is expected to result in electricity savings of around Rs 6.12 crore every year.“The project will continue to be operated and maintained for 25 years as per the agreement, allowing JDA to continue benefiting from renewable energy and reduced electricity expenditure beyond the payment period,” an official stated.The solar initiative is also expected to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions. The project is estimated to reduce around 5,227 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, translating into an estimated reduction of approximately 1.31 lakh tonnes over 25 years.JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan said the project is being implemented through Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) and will have a total installed capacity of 5 MW.Mahajan said the project marks an important step towards making JDA’s operations more sustainable and strengthening its focus on green energy, energy conservation and environmental protection.“A significant portion of the electricity requirement of the STPs and gardens associated with the Dravyavati River will be met through renewable energy, while the initiative will also help reduce JDA’s long-term power expenditure,” added Mahajan.Officials stated that if successful, JDA plans to extend solar installations to other public assets under its maintenance across the city.
