Jaipur: Traffic police Sunday launched a special drive against habitual traffic violators with large pending e-challan dues, signalling a tougher crackdown on repeat offenders and long-unpaid penalties.The campaign aims to identify vehicles whose owners repeatedly ignored challans and continued operating on city roads without clearing fines.During the drive Sunday, traffic officials seized three buses and initiated legal action against their owners. One bus had 55 pending challans, another 33, while the third bus seized Sunday had 46 unpaid challans.Officials said the move reflects the department’s shift from merely issuing challans to taking coercive action against chronic violators.“A daily list of habitual traffic violators is being retrieved from the e-challan portal. A special surveillance drive has also been launched to identify drivers who repeatedly violate traffic rules and fail to pay fines. Strict action is being taken against such vehicles and drivers,” said Jaipur traffic DCP Yogesh Goyal.Police said action would be taken under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended by the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, along with other applicable laws.The traffic wing also appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to clear pending challans to avoid legal proceedings, vehicle seizure and operational disruption.“Vehicle owners are advised not to ignore challans issued by the traffic police. Drivers should settle pending traffic fines in time to avoid legal action and inconvenience,” the advisory stated.
