Jaipur/Alwar: A 28-year-old man from Alwar district has been arrested for allegedly using AI-generated deepfake videos of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay to cheat people by offering fake financial assistance, police said.The accused, identified as Saibu Khan, son of Juhru Khan and a resident of Butoli village under Lakshmangarh police station limits, was arrested in a raid carried out on information shared by Tamil Nadu Police. He has been handed over to the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch.Police said Khan allegedly circulated deepfake videos in which Vijay was shown speaking in Hindi and asking people to contact a WhatsApp number to receive financial help for education, medical treatment and other needs.The cyber crime team of Tamil Nadu CB-CID traced Khan to Rajasthan through a digital trail and sought help from Alwar Police. With assistance from Lakshmangarh police, he was arrested on September 12 and handed over to Tamil Nadu Police. He was taken to Tamil Nadu on a transit warrant Wednesday and sent to judicial custody.Lakshmangarh thana in charge Rajesh Meena said the CB-CID team reached Lakshmangarh while tracking the accused, after which a raid was conducted in Butoli village with the local police team. A mobile phone, SIM cards and a CPU were recovered from Khan and handed over to the Tamil Nadu cyber crime team.Alwar SP Sudhir Chaudhary said Khan had been arrested and handed over to the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch.Police said the deepfake videos had been shared on Facebook and other social media platforms. Investigators found that attempts were made to cheat people in several states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.A case was registered in Tamil Nadu on Sept 1 under sections of BNS and the IT Act. During the probe, police sought details of fake accounts and digital logs from social media platforms. Special teams were then sent to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on the basis of digital evidence.
