Five held for refilling LPG cylinders with propylene gas in Ajmer

Ajmer: Ajmer Police Saturday busted an illegal gas refilling racket near the Nasirabad area and arrested five people for allegedly refilling commercial LPG cylinders with highly flammable propylene gas for sale on the black market.The arrested accused were identified as Sarweshwar Singh (35) and Munawar Khan (50), both residents of Uttar Pradesh; Shiv Pratap Bishnoi (26) and Subhash Bishnoi (25), residents of Phalodi; and Laxman Bishnoi (30), a resident of Jodhpur.According to officials, a police patrol team spotted suspicious activity behind a restaurant on NH-48 near Jhadwasa village in the Nasirabad area. On reaching the spot, officers found five men allegedly transferring gas from tankers into commercial cylinders.“On inspection, the gas was found to be propylene, which is highly flammable and poses a serious risk of fire and explosion,” an official said.During the operation, police seized two propylene gas tankers bearing registration numbers from Gujarat and Nagaland, 35 commercial LPG cylinders, a refilling pump and a tempo.Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang allegedly procured propylene gas and refilled commercial cylinders before selling them illegally in areas facing shortages of commercial LPG cylinders.Police have registered a case under various provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and launched further investigations to trace the source of the tankers and identify other members of the network.
