Jaipur: A 23-year-old woman died early Monday after developing complications following a caesarean delivery at Bangur Hospital in Pali. The hospital administration has formed a committee to investigate the death. The woman, identified as Lalita, wife of Pawan Nagoura and a resident of Pokhran, delivered a baby girl Sunday. The newborn is undergoing treatment at the hospital.Dr Kailash Parihar said Lalita’s platelet count dropped sharply after the surgery, and her condition deteriorated due to other complications. “We transfused platelets and made efforts to stabilise her, but she could not survive. She died early Monday,” he said.According to hospital records, Lalita was admitted three days earlier but was discharged. She was brought back within hours after her condition worsened. Doctors found her platelet count critically low and administered transfusions before and after the delivery. No post-mortem was conducted as the family refused consent and took the body to Pokhran, hospital officials said. The death comes amid concerns over maternal mortality in Rajasthan. In Kota, four maternal deaths have been reported in the past 20 days, including two women referred from Baran.A health department official said Chief Secretary V Srinivas had directed officials Wednesday to ensure timely treatment and care for pregnant women and newborns, identifying reduction in maternal mortality as a major challenge. The state govt is also focusing on strengthening maternal and child health services. Directions have been issued to make operation theatres at Community Health Centres fully functional and upgrade those in high-patient-load medical institutions into modular facilities.
