Acid attack accused lodged in Kota jail dies after hospitalisation

Kota: An undertrial inmate of Kota central jail, charged in an acid attack case involving his wife, died during treatment at New Medical Collage Hospital Thursday evening. The deceased, identified as Sunit alias Boby (50), son of Om Prakash and resident of Mahaveer Nagar Kota, had been lodged in jail since his arrest in January this year.According to jailor Dhara Singh, Sunit had a history of diabetes, heart and liver complications and had been under treatment at New Medical College Hospital for several days. His condition worsened Thursday evening and he passed away later the same day.The police handed over the body to Sunit’s family members Friday morning after post-mortem. Authorities have registered a case for judicial inquiry into the death.Sunit faced charges of holding his wife, a govt schoolteacher, hostage, and carrying out an acid attack, for which he was booked under Sections 124 (1), 127 (2), 79, 109 (1) of BNS at Mahaveer Nagar police station in Kota on January 18, 2025. Judicial inquiry into the matter is currently underway.
