Udaipur: A violent incident at the Dhan Mandi area on Thursday night led to tensions in the city, resulting in market closures and protests on Friday. The incident began when a dispute over lemon prices escalated into a violent attack on a vegetable vendor and his father.According to SP Yogesh Goyal, the incident unfolded around 10pm when two customers engaged in an argument with vendor Rahul and his father Satveer over the price of lemons. Though bystanders initially managed to defuse the situation, the customers returned shortly after with 5-7 accomplices and attacked the vendors with sticks.Satveer, 50, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to MB Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.In response to the attack, outraged traders set fire to several empty vegetable carts, requiring intervention from the fire brigade. The incident prompted a significant police deployment from eight different stations across the city.The following day, traders observed a protest closure of major markets including Dhan Mandi, Nehru Bazaar, Nada Khada, Delhi Gate Crossing and Bapu Bazaar, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators. Police authorities successfully negotiated with traders, leading to the reopening of markets by Friday afternoon.“We have arrested four suspects – Tofiq Hussain, Anas Hussain, Taskeen Khan and Arbaaz Hussain – and detained two juveniles in connection with the case,” said ASP Umesh Ojha. “The investigation is ongoing as we continue to search for the main suspect who remains at large.”The police investigation was aided by CCTV footage from the area, which helped identify the suspects. Authorities were maintaining a heightened presence in the area to prevent any further incidents and ensure public safety.
