Jaipur: Dausa police Thursday arrested two wanted criminals carrying rewards of ₹25,000 each and claimed to have cracked a series of jewellery-snatching and robbery cases reported from Dausa and neighbouring districts over the past several months.The accused were identified as Mahesh alias Fuddu, 40, a resident of Pahua village in Deeg district, and Akash, 28, originally from Bharatpur and currently residing in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Police said illegal firearms and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crimes were recovered from them.According to investigators, the duo targeted women travelling alone in villages in Bandikui, Baswa, Kolwa and Baijupada. They allegedly threatened victims with firearms before snatching gold ornaments, including chains, pendants, earrings and lockets, and fleeing the spot.Police had announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to their arrest after a series of robberies triggered panic among residents and protests by local organisations.Police identified Mahesh as the prime suspect after matching CCTV footage with photographs from his previous arrests.Police said the duo re-entered Dausa district on July 14, allegedly to commit another offence. Acting on technical inputs and local intelligence, a joint team from Bandikui and Baswa police stations, along with the district special team, intercepted and arrested them near the Banganga river in the Basda area during the night.A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.Police said the accused used stolen motorcycles to commit the crimes so they could abandon the vehicles if chased.
