Jaipur: Neelkanth Colony in Jai Singhpura is heading into its first councillor election with residents angry over what they describe as a missing playground promised by the developer. Residents said plots were sold with a layout showing land reserved for children’s play, but after sales, the builder allegedly put up accommodation for company workers on the same site.Mahendra Saini, a colony resident, accused the developer of cheating buyers. “The role of JDA is also fishy. The builder has violated the provisions of the sanctioned plan of the colony. Despite a complaint, JDA has not taken any steps against the builder. For the last two months they are claiming that the investigation to our complaint is still on,” stated Mahendra Saini, who himself is a builder by profession.The residents have lodged complaint and filed a joint petition with JDA on June 30, 2026. The colony came under JMC in Dec 2025 and will participate in civic polls for the first time. Earlier it was under the Jai Singhpura village panchayat. It has 95 plots and houses, with nearly 500 people, though around 250 live there permanently. Residents said 40 to 45 children have been left without play space because the builder wanted more profit.“We have lodged complaints and held agitation. Let the candidates of our ward come asking for votes. We would boycott votes if needed, and move to court against both JDA and the builder,” stated Hemlata Sharma, another local resident.Residents said the issue will dominate polling in the new ward unless the JDA acts. Their complaint has been pending for two months, with officials maintaining that inquiry is still under way.JDA enforcement officials said private townships now require 12.5% of total plots to remain mortgaged or reserved during construction and be released only after a Completion Certificate. However, the Neelkanth Colony was built in 2012, before this rule came into effect.“Now the only solution is to demolish the quarter. We have started an investigation and initiated talks with both parties. If we find that the builder has made any violation, we are going to raze the buildings,” an enforcement official stated.They now demand civic intervention, restoration of the playground, and accountability, making the issue central to the colony’s maiden local poll battle.
