Jaisalmer: Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) will begin the bilateral air exercise Veer Guardian-2026 at Air Force Station Jodhpur and adjoining areas on Sept 9. The exercise will continue until Sept 22.An official said IAF would deploy a mix of frontline combat aircraft, including indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Su-30 MKI and Rafale fighters. JASDF will participate with its F-2A fighter aircraft.During the 14-day exercise, participating air warriors will undertake advanced operational missions and extensive professional interactions. The programme will include mission-planning conferences, exchanges between subject-matter experts, and interactions among personnel on engineering and aerospace safety.The exercise is aimed at enhancing tactical proficiency and aerospace operational synergy between the two air forces, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership and defence cooperation between India and Japan.Officials said senior leaders from both sides were also likely to participate. The possible presence of the chiefs of the two air forces and other senior officials would underline the strategic importance of the engagement and expanding bilateral defence partnership.The first edition of Veer Guardian was held in Japan in Jan 2023. India’s hosting of the second edition marks another step in the growing defence relationship between New Delhi and Tokyo.
