Jaisalmer: A 19-year-old BA student died by suicide at a girls’ hostel in Barmer Monday. Police broke open her hostel door to recover the body. DSP Ramesh Kumar Sharma said the BA second-year student was a native of Baytu in Barmer district. He said that around 11pm on Sunday, she had returned from the library and gone to her room.According to police, when she did not come out of her room until 10am on Monday, her roommate and other students knocked on the door but received no response. The warden was then informed. Around 11am, the door was broken open in presence of police.Family members were called, and in their presence, the body was brought down and taken to the mortuary of Barmer Medical College district hospital. Forensic teams also reached the hostel to collect evidence.Police said prima facie the case appeared to be a suicide, but investigation was on into the circumstances of the death. The student’s mobile phone was being examined as part of the inquiry, police said.Two days earlier in Barmer, in the same Kotwali police station area, a female student died by suicide in a room at her home after receiving fewer than expected marks in RBSE’s Class 12 board exams.
