Jaipur: Kisan Mahapanchayat has urged chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to compensate the family of a Beawar farmer who allegedly died by suicide after becoming depressed over land acquisition for the Bharatmala project.In a memorandum, the group demanded cancellation of the Bharatmala Pariyojana and the Kotputli-Kishangarh Greenfield Expressway, alleging the projects have caused severe distress among affected farmers. It warned of a 500-tractor rally on July 27 if the govt does not open talks.Kisan Mahapanchayat National President Rampal Jat said the deceased farmer, Anand, a resident of Nayagaon village in Masuda tehsil of Beawar district, is survived by four daughters, two sons, including an elder son with a mental disability, and his elderly mother.
According to the memorandum, the family has no adult earning member and is facing acute financial hardship.The organisation alleged that Anand owned only a small share of ancestral agricultural land and was under severe mental stress for months over fears that the family’s farmland and well would be acquired for the Bharatmala project. It claimed his death was directly linked to the land acquisition process and urged the state govt to extend humanitarian assistance to his dependents.The memorandum further alleged that despite repeated appeals by villagers, neither the local MLA nor the MP visited the bereaved family. It said govt officials assured the family of benefits under welfare schemes but informed them that no compensation could be granted as the case was treated as suicide.Reiterating its opposition to the Bharatmala project and the Kotputli-Kishangarh Greenfield Expressway, the farmers’ body claimed the highways would split villages, disrupt social and economic life, hinder livestock movement, and result in the loss of fertile agricultural land and trees. It also alleged that objections raised by villagers during the social impact assessment process were ignored.The organisation said farmers have been protesting against the projects since Sept 2025 through meetings, tractor rallies, Tiranga Chetna Yatras, sit-ins and silent marches. It alleged that affected landowners were excluded from meetings organised for project bidders while the projects were projected as development initiatives.Announcing the next phase of the agitation, Kisan Mahapanchayat said around 500 tractors would participate in a rally from Chomu on July 27. It warned that if the govt does not begin meaningful dialogue before then, farmers would intensify their protest and march to Jaipur with tractors. The organisation urged the CM to hold talks with farmer representatives, provide financial assistance to Anand’s family, and reconsider the two highway projects to prevent similar incidents in the future.
