Khetri police in Jhunjhunu Sunday solved a six-month-old murder case by arresting a 20-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend by serving him liquor laced with poison to avenge a personal dispute

Jhunjhunu: Khetri police in Jhunjhunu Sunday solved a six-month-old murder case by arresting a 20-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend by serving him liquor laced with poison to avenge a personal dispute.The accused, Rahul, a resident of Gahansar village in Khairthal-Tijara district, was produced before a court, which remanded him to three days of police custody.SP Kavendra Singh Sagar said the victim, Mintu, died on Jan 22 after consuming liquor with Rahul and others. Initially, the family alleged that Mintu was assaulted during an argument and left in a critical condition. He was declared dead on being taken to hospital.

A case was registered at Khetri police station on Jan 23. While the incident was initially suspected to be a murder following an assault, the post-mortem report revealed poisoning as the cause of death.Police then launched a detailed investigation using scientific evidence and technical analysis. The probe found that Rahul had an ongoing dispute with Mintu and allegedly planned the murder to settle scores.According to police, Rahul went to the victim’s village on Jan 22 and allegedly served him liquor mixed with poison. Mintu died shortly afterwards due to the poison’s effects.Police said the accused believed the murder would remain undetected, but the six-month investigation helped reconstruct the sequence of events and identify him as the prime suspect.Further investigation is underway.
