Ajmer: A Special POCSO court in Ajmer Thursday sentenced a 70-year-old man to 20 years in prison for the rape of a 5-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 and ordered a compensation of ₹6 lakh to be paid to the survivor.The accused, a retired railway employee, was found guilty after the mother of the child reported the crime on June 30, 2025. She told police that she had left her minor daughter in the care of a friend while she attended a social function, and upon her return, discovered the friend’s father-in-law sexually assaulting the child.The court noted significant shortcomings in the investigation, including the failure to collect samples from the accused and inadequacies in the handling of forensic evidence. As a result, the court directed the police department to conduct an inquiry into the actions of the circle officer, deputy superintendent of police, and station house officer concerned for their delayed response in filing the FIR and conducting the investigation.During the trial, which featured testimony from 17 witnesses and the presentation of 45 documents, special prosecutor Sanjay Tiwari argued for the conviction of the accused.
