Jaipur: A prolonged lull in southwest monsoon activity has pushed temperatures up across Rajasthan, bringing back hot and humid conditions after the initial spell of rain earlier this month. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, however, forecast a revival of monsoon activity from July 21, with rainfall expected to intensify across eastern and southern Rajasthan from July 22.The weak monsoon over the past week has led to a steady rise in both day and night temperatures, while rainfall remained confined to isolated pockets. High humidity added to the discomfort, making outdoor activities difficult despite temperatures staying below peak summer levels.Several districts recorded maximum temperatures above 40°C on Friday. Sri Ganganagar was the hottest place in the state at 41.8°C, followed by Churu (41.1°C), Pilani (40.4°C), and Bikaner (40.2°C). In western Rajasthan, Jaisalmer recorded 39.5°C, while Barmer and Phalodi registered 39.4°C each.Jaipur also witnessed a warm and humid day, with the maximum temperature settling at 37.5°C and the minimum at 29.8°C. The city has remained dry for nearly a week, and the Met office has forecast partly cloudy skies with little change in temperatures over the next 24 hours.According to the Met office, reduced cloud cover and weak monsoon currents have allowed temperatures to rise across the state. “The weakening of the monsoon has led to a temporary increase in temperatures. Rainfall activity is likely to pick up again from July 21, with more widespread showers expected from July 22,” a Jaipur Met office official said.The expected revival of the monsoon is likely to bring widespread rainfall to eastern and southern Rajasthan, providing relief from the prevailing heat and humidity and causing temperatures to dip over the following days.
