Unsafe cooking oil, substandard cashew found at Chokhi Dhani

Jaipur: A food safety inspection at Chokhi Dhani Friday allegedly found multiple violations, including the use of cooking oil with unsafe levels of Total Polar Compounds (TPC), officials said.The inspection was carried out by the food safety team of the Chief Medical and Health Officer (Jaipur II) following a complaint received through the 181 helpline. The drive was conducted under the state’s Shuddh Aahar Milawat Par Vaar campaign.Food Safety and Drug Control commissioner Dr T. Shubhamangala said the TPC level in the edible oil used for frying potatoes was found to be 31%, exceeding the prescribed limit of 25%, rendering it unsafe for consumption. A sample of the used oil was collected for laboratory analysis.Chief Medical and Health Officer (Jaipur II) Dr Manish Mittal said inspectors also found inferior-quality cashew pieces without manufacturing or expiry dates on the packaging. Officials seized nine boxes weighing about 90 kg and collected samples of the cashew pieces and mawa.All samples were sent to the State Food Laboratory. Legal action will follow if violations are confirmed.
