Udaipur: Concern for student safety escalated in Udaipur district following three alarming incidents of walls collapsing and plaster falling in govt schools over the past two days. The most recent incident occurred Monday at the govt school in Naya Rajpura, Vallabhnagar, where plaster from the ceilings of three classrooms fell while classes were in session.Fortunately, no injuries were reported as teachers acted swiftly to evacuate the 64 students present at the time. Parents, however, expressed their outrage and concern, stating that the deteriorating condition of the school necessitated its closure until necessary repairs could be made. “If an accident occurs tomorrow, who will take responsibility?” one parent lamented as they took their children home. This incident follows two similar occurrences on Sunday: a ceiling collapse at Pandya Wada School in Rishabhdev and a wall collapse at the govt school in Rupawali village, Vallabhnagar. In response to these incidents, Udaipur collector Namit Mehta ordered a special campaign to assess structural integrity of govt buildings across the district, including schools and anganwadi centers. These committees will report their findings by Aug 5 and have been tasked with identifying and sealing unsafe buildings, relocating students and ensuring the safety of educational institutions. “We are taking this matter seriously to ensure the safety of our children,” Mehta said.Meanwhile in Pali, concerned for their children’s safety due to the school’s dilapidated building, parents in Pali’s Balelao village, locked the gate of the govt primary school Monday to bar entry of children. They said they feared the collapse of the building due to rainwater seeping into the walls.
