First phase of civic elections covering 162 ULBs today

Jaipur: The first phase of Rajasthan’s urban local body elections would begin Wednesday, covering 162 of the state’s 309 ULBs and marking a major rollout of simultaneous civic polling.The first phase includes the municipal corporations of Alwar, Bharatpur, Bikaner and Bhilwara, along with 27 municipal councils and 131 municipalities. Except Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), all 16 of the 18 ULBs in Jaipur district will also vote. The second phase of polling, which will include JMC, is scheduled for Sept 11.“Results for all 309 ULBs will be declared together on Sep 14,” said a state election commission official.A total of 20,623 candidates are in the fray for 5,393 wards. Officials said 57,52,278 voters can cast ballots at 7,683 polling booths across the 162 civic bodies.“The civic bodies going to polls in Jaipur district are Manoharpur, Phulera, Sambhar, Naraina, Kishangarh-Renwal, Shahpura, Dudu, Chaksu, Phagi, Jobner, Khejroli, Jamwa-Ramgarh, Vatika, Kanota, Bassi, Bagru, Kaladera and Chomu,” a district administration official said.Phase two is on Sept 11.
