Jaipur: A resident doctor of SMS Medical College was found dead inside his locked car parked by the roadside in Jaipur’s Adarsh Nagar area Monday afternoon. Police suspect he died of suffocation after falling asleep inside the vehicle with the air conditioner running, which is believed to have stopped after the car ran out of fuel. The deceased was identified as Dr Sandeep Kumar Sharma (37), a native of Udaipurwati in Jhunjhunu district. He was a first-year resident in the dermatology dept at SMS Medical College.Police said passersby alerted them around 3 pm after noticing a man lying motionless inside a car parked near Barafkhana. Responding officers repeatedly called out to the occupant and tried to unlock the vehicle. When there was no response, they broke one of the windows, opened the car and found the doctor dead in the driver’s seat.During the inspection, police recovered a quarter bottle of liquor from inside the vehicle. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team examined the scene, and the body was shifted to the SMS Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem to be conducted by a medical board.Preliminary investigation suggests that Sharma had consumed something before parking the car by the roadside and falling asleep with the air conditioner switched on. Locals told police the vehicle had remained parked at the spot for nearly five hours.Investigators suspect the car ran out of fuel, causing the air conditioner to stop functioning. Trapped inside the locked vehicle amid extreme heat, Sharma is believed to have died of suffocation. However, police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
