Jaipur: Rajasthan has opened more than 3.86 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts, with deposits crossing ₹24,933 crore, making it the fourth-ranked state in the country in terms of deposits under the scheme, according to a statement issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO) Monday, citing the latest data released by the Union finance ministry.Uttar Pradesh tops the country with ₹67,206.59 crore deposited in Jan Dhan accounts, followed by Bihar (₹30,760.45 crore), West Bengal (₹25,485.44 crore), Rajasthan (₹24,933.35 crore) and Maharashtra (₹22,031.73 crore). The CMO said the scheme has played a key role in bringing economically weaker sections into the formal banking system while ensuring the direct transfer of benefits under various central and state welfare schemes.According to the data, over 2.19 crore Jan Dhan accounts in Rajasthan belong to women, accounting for 57% of the total accounts in the state, slightly higher than the national average of 56%. The statement said the scheme has helped women, particularly those in the unorganised sector, gain access to banking services as well as social security schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana. The CMO also said deposits in Jan Dhan accounts have continued to grow since the scheme was launched in 2014, reflecting increasing trust in the formal banking system. Across the country, deposits under the scheme have crossed ₹2.67 lakh crore, it said. The statement added that more than 2.87 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued to Jan Dhan account holders in Rajasthan. It said beneficiaries are entitled to facilities such as zero-balance accounts, overdraft of up to ₹10,000, direct benefit transfer (DBT) and accident insurance cover of up to ₹2 lakh for eligible account holders, helping strengthen financial inclusion and digital payments across the state.
