Jaipur: City police Friday arrested five men for robbing a local jeweller near his residence in Sector 26, Pratap Nagar. The arrests followed a detailed investigation involving CCTV analysis, technical surveillance, and input from local informants.The incident took place around 9.10pm on June 28 when the victim, Chandraprakash Soni, a jeweller and resident of Sector 26, was returning home after closing his shop, Shubham Jewellers, located opposite the homeopathic hospital in Pratap Nagar.According to the FIR registered at Pratap Nagar police station, Soni was riding his two-wheeler and just reached an alley near Prem Mandir when a white Scorpio SUV suddenly hit his bike, causing him to fall. Before he could recover, two men stepped out of the vehicle and began attacking him with sticks. Despite his attempts to hold on to his bag, he was overpowered.“The attackers hit him repeatedly until he released the bag, which contained Rs 25,000 in cash, approximately 15 grams of gold jewellery, 12 silver coins, and some important documents,” said a senior police official.Soni suffered a head injury during the assault and required stitches. Initial confusion led bystanders to believe it was a road accident. However, when they attempted to assist, the assailants brandished sticks to scare them off and fled the scene in their car. It was only after locals realised what happened that the police were alerted. Officers admitted the injured victim to the hospital and launched a search for the accused.A dedicated team analysed hours of CCTV footage and used mobile surveillance to trace the suspects’ movements. Based on technical inputs and a tip-off, the five accused were arrested from different locations, including Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Jaipur.Police said that the robbers were observing the victim’s routine and deliberately targeted him after his shop closed. While the identities of the accused are being withheld for the time being, officials confirmed that they confessed to the crime.
