Jaipur: Following protests over eviction notices issued to 51 students of Maharaja College’s Gokhle Hostel, the college administration Monday gave them two days to settle their mess dues and clear pending accounts. The decision was taken at a meeting of college authorities and student representatives. The dispute arose after the college questioned the no-dues receipts submitted by 51 students with their hostel readmission forms. “The receipts were issued by the student-run mess committee, but the college said they were forged and then declared second and third-year students ineligible for hostel readmission,” said RU NSUI in charge Vijay Pal Kuri.“Students said the mess was being run on a cooperative basis, but the accounts were not properly maintained. The committee has directed them to settle all outstanding mess dues within two days. The mess security deposits of all students will also have to be properly reflected in the accounts.”, Maharaja College principal Sarina Kalia said. The college officials reiterated that students not promoted to the next academic year would not be allowed to continue in the hostel. It also barred guests from the hostel and ordered surprise inspections. Strict action will be taken against students who allow guests to stay in the hostel, college officials said.
