NEET Re-Exam: Candidate denied entry over burqa wins stand-off citing NTA rules

Ajmer: A dispute broke out at a NEET re-examination centre in Ajmer Sunday when a candidate was asked to remove her burqa before entering the premises. The candidate, identified as Kulsum Bano of Beawar, refused to do so. It was only after her father showed Rule 18 of the NTA bulletin that she was allowed to enter with a burqa.“I was allowed to wear a burqa when I appeared for the NEET exam on May 3, but this time they refused to give me entry when I wore it,” said Kulsum to the media. Her father, who was waiting outside the gate, then showed Rule 18 that allows candidates to wear their traditional dresses, on condition that they will be checked by women security before entering the centre. The officials who had gathered at the spot then spoke to authorities and allowed Kulsum to enter the centre wearing a burqa.Ajmer had a total of 15 centres, with nine in the city and six in Kishangarh. Officials claimed that the re-exam was conducted peacefully with no chaos reported from anywhere.
