Jhunjhunu: A man was arrested after allegedly beating up his father and then running him over with a tractor late Thursday night following a dispute over ancestral land in Dhosi village under Mehada police station limits of Jhunjhunu district.Mehada SHO Rammanohar Tholia identified the deceased as Mahavir Prasad, 65. His son, accused Shamsher Singh, 38, has been taken into custody and booked for murder.Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute going on for the last three years over the division of nearly 30 bighas of agricultural land. The son had started living separately from his father due to the dispute, they added.According to the complaint lodged by Mahavir’s son-in-law, Rakesh Kumar, the father wanted the land to be divided equally among his son and four daughters, while Shamsher wanted the entire property transferred to his name.Around 10.30pm Thursday, Mahavir was sitting near the village dharamshala when Shamsher arrived on the scene, and an altercation took place between the two. The dispute escalated, and the accused started assaulting his father.People present nearby tried to intervene, but the accused did not relent. He then dragged his father onto the road and crushed him with a tractor.The injured man was rushed to the govt hospital in Khetri, where doctors declared him dead.A case of murder has been registered and further investigations are underway.
