Jaipur: The high court administration, in its order Saturday, appointed Pravendra Pal Singh as the judge of special NIA court, Jaipur Metro-1, which is hearing the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Udaipur. This post was vacant for about two months. In this situation, the hearing of the murder case was in progress at the link court. Even former chief minister Ashok Gehlot had raised concern about the proceedings of this court, which were not happening for the past few months. In between, the judge of the link court was also on leave. Gehlot accused BJP of politicising the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Udaipur while failing to ensure swift justice through the National Investigation Agency (NIA).“The Rajasthan police demonstrated remarkable efficiency by apprehending the criminals within four hours of the crime. However, the NIA took over the case the same night, and since then, progress has been disappointingly slow,” Gehlot said. Even the family of Kanhaiya Lal has been demanding to have the trial in a fast-track court.Notably in the murder case, the prosecution, in the 40 hearings so far, has been able to get the statements of merely six witnesses out of a total of 166 witnesses in this case. Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, was hacked to death allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Gaus Mohammed at his shop on June 28, 2022.
