Jaipur: Piles of garbage, foul smells, and unchecked dumping have become a persistent issue for residents across Jaipur—from areas near the railway station to Bajaj Nagar and Mahaveer Udyan. Despite frequent late-night inspections by civic officials, residents say little has changed on the ground.“Officers come, take photos, and leave. The garbage stays,” said Himmat Singh, who lives near Jaipur Railway Station. “This place has become a permanent dumping ground. It only gets cleaned when some VIP is expected,” he added.On Friday night, Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater commissioner Gaurav Saini inspected night-time cleaning operations along Tonk Road, JLN Marg, and Jhalana Road, monitoring sweeping machines and directing staff. Simultaneously, JMC-Heritage commissioner Nidhi Patel conducted surprise checks in the Walled City, instructing teams to clean markets only after midnight and ensure dust-free roads using sprinklers and mechanised sweepers. Still, complaints continue to pour in. “I have filed 14 complaints about an open garbage site in Bajaj Nagar. Nothing changes,” said Raj Bhargava, a resident.When asked about these repeated complaints, Patel admitted the shortcomings. “Many affected areas are slums where awareness about waste management is low.Also, some new contractors lacked proper vehicles. We have fined them over Rs5 lakh,” she said. “We will soon begin a public awareness drive in these areas. We have also received complaints that garbage vehicles often arrive late, or don’t stop, or don’t have helpers. We will also install cameras and GPS in garbage vehicles to track their performance,” she added.
