Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched ‘Shivarpanam’, a month-long initiative to convert floral offerings from five prominent Shiva temples into organic compost, linking religious faith with environmental conservation during the holy month of Sawan.Under the pilot project, dedicated e-vehicles — Shivarpanam Rath, will collect belpatra, flowers and other biodegradable offerings from Tadkeshwar Mahadev, Jharkhand Mahadev, Jangleshwar Mahadev, Chamkareshwar Mahadev and Rozgareshwar Mahadev. Officials said these temples were selected due to their high footfall and the large quantity of offerings they receive.The collected offerings will be transported to municipal gardens, where they will be shredded and processed in dedicated compost pits. JMC expects to collect 10-20 tonnes of green waste during the campaign. Officials said after the composting process, the manure will be distributed among citizens.JMC commissioner Om Kasera said, “Every belpatra and flower offered to Lord Shiva symbolises devotion. Its place is not in the garbage, but to serve the Earth.”Officials said the compost can be used for all plants except Tulsi, adding that the initiative seeks to promote cleanliness, reduce organic waste reaching landfills and encourage a circular economy while preserving the sanctity of temple offerings.
