J&K man killedin Deeg overson’s elopement

Alwar: A man from Jammu and Kashmir, whose son had eloped with a minor girl from a village in Deeg district, was murdered by the girl’s family hours after a village panchayat had settled the dispute between the two sides, police said. The incident took place in a village under the Pahadi police station area. The victim, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, a resident of Koti Chadhiyar village in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, had come there with relatives after his son Hayat Khan eloped with the minor girl.Hayat is still missing, while the minor girl was rescued, police said.According to an FIR filed by Nazir Ahmad Khan, a relative of the deceased, a compromise over the elopement was reached with the girl’s family Friday evening in the presence of village panchayat members. The two families reportedly even shared a meal after the resolution of their dispute.Nazir told police that later the same day, the girl’s father came to a dhaba in Pahadi town with two vehicles and asked Abdullah and two of his relatives to stay the night in the village, as it was too late to leave for home. The three men were then led to the house of a neighbour of the girl’s father, Shami Khan, where they went to sleep. The FIR alleges that during the night, the girl’s father returned with some villagers, forced Abdullah out of the house and drove him away in a vehicle.By the time Nazir managed to come outside, Abdullah had already been taken away. When he inquired, his host, Shami Khan, said that Abdullah had complained of a stomach ache and was being taken to the hospital. On Saturday morning, however, Abdullah’s body was found lying on the roadside near an agricultural field, triggering a commotion in the village. Police said his throat had been slit.Pahadi SHO Yogendra Singh said an investigation has been launched and the body was sent for post-mortem after an examination by a forensic team.Speaking of an earlier case registered following the elopement of Abdullah’s son with the minor girl, police said she had been located and produced before the Child Welfare Committee in Bharatpur. The boy, Hayat, remains untraced.Police confirmed that the boy’s family had been staying in Pahadi for the past three days for compromise talks and was in contact with the girl’s family before Abdullah’s killing.
