Jaipur marks 1st jewellery exports of $10mn under India–UK pact

Jaipur: Jaipur flagged off its first jewellery export consignment worth $10 million to the UK under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) at the Air Cargo Complex, Sanganer. The agreement provides zero-duty access to the UK market from day one, eliminating import tariffs of up to 4%. This gives Indian exporters a strong edge in the UK’s $4 billion jewellery import market, boosting exports, investment and jobs.Commissioner of Customs R K Chandan said customs is committed to faster clearances and robust facilitation. GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali called the consignment “the beginning of a new chapter in India’s global trade journey.”With duty-free access, India’s gem and jewellery exports to the UK are expected to rise from $754 million to nearly $2.5 billion in three years. Bhansali added that this growth will benefit exporters, MSMEs, artisans and designers, strengthening India’s global leadership in jewellery craftsmanship and innovation. For Rajasthan, the pact promises improved market access, value-added manufacturing, skill development and employment. Jaipur’s expertise in coloured gemstones, diamond-studded and handcrafted jewellery positions it as a key beneficiary of the agreement.
