IT dept holds cleanliness drive at Jaisalmer’s Sam sand dunes

Jaisalmer: In a proactive initiative ahead of the tourist season, the Income Tax department conducted a cleanliness drive at the Sam Sand Dunes on the 167th Income Tax Day, Friday. The campaign, aimed at promoting environmental conservation and social responsibility, focused on the removal of glass and plastic waste scattered across the dunes.Income Tax Officer Mahesh Kulhari highlighted the dangers posed by discarded glass bottles, which often become buried under the sand, creating significant risks for tourists, camel riders and local wildlife. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the desert’s pristine beauty to ensure a safe experience for the hundreds of thousands of tourists who flock to the area each year for camel safaris and desert excursions.

During the drive, the department worked alongside local residents, collectively collecting dozens of discarded bottles and plastic waste for proper disposal. Kulhari noted the urgent need for public cooperation in keeping the area clean, urging visitors and locals to practice responsible tourism. Officials called on local residents, resort owners and tourists to help preserve the area’s environmental integrity, emphasising the sensitivity of this unique region.
