Jaipur: Slamming the state govt for poor law and order, former CM Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said the threat to kill chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and IAS officer Neeraj K Pawan was a matter of grave concern for all residents of the state. “This is the third time the CM received a life threat. People are now worried that if the CM himself is being threatened in this manner, what will happen to the safety of the common man?” he asked.“For the past year and a half, crimes such as murder, robbery, rape, and theft steadily increased, and the govt’s focus seems to be solely on reducing crime statistics. This situation is arising when the CM is also the home minister. The people of Rajasthan are asking when will this situation improve,” Gehlot said.Gehlot further raised the incident of Congress functionary Sandeep Singh Choudhary’s home being robbed in broad daylight. He said there was an attempt to kill his mother and wife by administering poison to them. “It seems the rule of law in Rajasthan is almost non-existent,” the ex-CM added.“Crime in Rajasthan is leading to a state of chaos. Crimes such as theft, robbery, shootings, and dacoity are continuously increasing in Jaipur city, instilling fear among the public. The criminals involved in these incidents remain beyond the reach of the police, allowing them to repeatedly commit crimes. People are asking when they will be freed from this atmosphere of fear and disorder,” said Gehlot.Leader of opposition Tikaram Jully said the law and order situation in Rajasthan is currently at a very concerning juncture. “Once again, CM Sharma received death threats. Senior IAS officer Pawan was threatened with having his body dismembered and packed into a suitcase. There are threats to blow up the SMS Stadium. The Nagaur district collectorate received bomb threats, raising serious questions about the state’s law and order,” he said, adding that when top govt and administrative officials are unsafe, ordinary citizens would feel doubly insecure.“This is a matter of great concern. Mr CM, you are also the home minister of this state, yet the situation continues to deteriorate. This indicates either a lack of willpower in the system or that the administration has become completely insensitive,” Jully said.
