People using payment apps like Paytm, PhonePe, or Google Pay are being tricked when they scan these fake codes, unknowingly transferring money to criminals. In most cases, shopkeepers realised something was wrong only when no payment notification was received, but by then the customer left and the transaction was complete. This delay made recovery of money nearly impossible.Rajasthan Police advised shopkeepers to place QR codes in secure, tamper-proof spots, preferably within their line of sight. They should remove the codes at night and inspect them regularly for signs of tampering.
