Jaipur: A day after the arrest of a 33-year-old woman who allegedly posed as a trainee sub-inspector at the Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA), the Shastri Nagar police on Friday brought her to Jaipur for further questioning. Accused Mona Bugalia was arrested in Sikar and is on five-day remand. She reportedly stayed on the RPA campus for an extended period, wearing a regulation police uniform and attending training sessions, despite not being officially selected through the recruitment process.An official said Bugalia integrated herself into this schedule without ever being on the official rolls. She is now being questioned about how she managed to cheat the system to continue receiving training.According to officials, an FIR was registered against her on Sept 29, 2023, following a complaint lodged by an RPA official. The complaint stated that Bugalia fraudulently entered the academy, misrepresenting herself as a candidate selected for training. Bugalia, who was preparing for the SI exam, was not selected. However, she circulated false claims on social media about her selection, prompting relatives and villagers to extend their congratulations. She crafted a narrative around her struggle, claiming she achieved success despite financial hardships, and used the ruse to gain access to the academy.Sources said she avoided indoor training sessions, where attendance was recorded in official registers, as her name was missing from the authorised batch list. Instead, she attended outdoor drills and ceremonies, blending in with recruits from various batches.Officials said Bugalia exploited the logistical complexity of the RPA. During one such session, a probationary sub-inspector questioned her batch affiliation. Sensing suspicion, she falsely claimed to be an Intelligence Bureau (IB) candidate. The facade began to unravel when the same sub-inspector, still doubtful, checked the candidate lists of all SI batches. Bugalia’s name did not appear in any, prompting a formal inquiry by RPA officials. The probe revealed that she never cleared the SI recruitment exam and nevertheless managed to participate in nearly two years of police training, including outdoor activities, without formal admission.
