Congressmen clash at Makrana event, FIR registered

Ajmer: A foundation stone-laying ceremony in Makrana turned violent when two senior Congressmen engaged in a public altercation, resulting in injuries and property damage. The incident occurred near the Eidgah in the cemetery area, where construction of a road and ablution area was to commence. The confrontation began when Congress functionary Aziz Gehlot refused to get photographed with MLA Jakir Hussain Gesawat, allegedly calling the latter a “corrupt person.” The verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation between supporters of both Congressmen, during which the MLA’s nephew, Fareen, suffered a broken arm while attempting to protect his uncle.According to police reports, Gehlot allegedly returned to the scene with supporters and relatives, armed with sticks, leading to further violence and damage to ceremony materials. Police had to intervene to restore order.Deputy SP Rajesh Vidhyarthi confirmed that an investigation has been launched following an FIR filed by MLA Gesawat against Gehlot. Videos clips of the incident have gone viral on social media platforms. Sources familiar with the situation suggest the clash stems from deeper political tensions. Gehlot, who was denied a Congress ticket for the 2023 assembly elections from Makrana, has repeatedly accused MLA Gesawat of misconduct. Most recently, during a protest on May 26, Gehlot alleged that the MLA accepted bribes from a liquor contractor.
