Jaisalmer: A 31-year-old married woman in Barmer’s Girab police station area died by suicide Tuesday evening after being blackmailed with threats of rape and the circulation of obscene videos. The woman, mother of three, was alone at home when she hanged herself. According to police, the woman was allegedly lured, raped, and filmed by a man from her village, who continued to exploit and threaten her. Her uncle filed a complaint against the accused, identified as Sumar Khan (name changed). ASP Nitesh Arya said the woman was distressed after being pressured again Tuesday.Relatives found her hanging after breaking into the locked room. The body was sent for postmortem. The family claimed the husband had earlier reported the matter in Sept 2024, but no action was taken. Police say no such report was received, and a thorough investigation is now underway.
