JAISALMER: An 18-year-old woman in Barmer, Rajasthan, gave birth to a newborn at a government hospital on Saturday after being ‘sexually assaulted’ when she was 17.Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the hospital and questioned her, during which she accused a young man of the crime.ASP Nitesh Arya is investigating the case.The woman is currently hospitalised. When the rape occurred, she was 17 years old and a minor, leading to a case being filed under POCSO and other sections. On Sunday, the police detained the accused.According to the police, the girl’s family brought her to the hospital on Saturday evening due to abdominal pain. After examining her, the doctors admitted her and informed the police. During this time, she gave birth to a newborn. Inspector Mukandan stated that a POCSO case was registered based on the statement. The girl alleged that about nine months ago, a young man assaulted and raped her. Barmer SP Narendra Singh Meena confirmed the detention of the accused, stating that the police detained him just hours after the FIR was filed. He mentioned that the rape occurred approximately eight months ago and the victim gave birth to a newborn at the district hospital on Saturday.
