Woman duped of 1.19L in cyber fraud

Ajmer: A woman in Ajmer was duped of Rs 1.19 lakh in a cyber fraud after being lured with a fake investment scheme Wednesday. The victim was identified as Jenika Jonwal, a resident of Anandpuri in Dholabhata area of Ajmer district.According to police, the woman received a call from a fraudster posing as a bank representative who offered her an investment plan linked to the petroleum sector. Believing the claim, she transferred Rs 1.19 lakh to him in three transactions.The woman realised she had been duped when she did not receive any investment documents. She then dialled cyber helpline 1930.Alwar Gate ASI Rajpal Singh said that police managed to freeze Rs 55,000 from the transferred amount. “We are trying to trace the fraudster,” he said. tnn
