Jaipur: Rajasthan’s cumulative monsoon rainfall deficit narrowed to 6.23% Sunday following fresh showers across several parts of the state, bringing seasonal rainfall within the normal range, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).IMD data showed the state received an average of 172.69 mm of rainfall against the normal 184.16 mm till Sunday.The improved distribution of rainfall has placed 19 districts in the normal rainfall category, while six districts have recorded excess rainfall. Phalodi is the only district in the abnormal rainfall category, with a surplus of 78.89%. The Met office said several districts could end the season with excess rainfall as a substantial part of the monsoon still remains.
Fifteen districts continue to report rainfall deficits. These are Anupgarh, Banswara, Bharatpur, Bundi, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Karauli, Kherthal-Tijara, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Udaipur. No district falls in the scanty rainfall category.Jaipur has received 192.91 mm of rainfall so far this season, above the state average. Salumbar has recorded the highest cumulative rainfall at 378.94 mm, while Jaisalmer has received the least at 49.44 mm.Compared with 2025, when 28 districts recorded above-normal rainfall, this year’s monsoon has been more evenly distributed, with most districts now in the normal category despite deficits persisting in parts of eastern and southern Rajasthan.On Sunday, Sedwa in Barmer recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 102 mm. Several areas in the Jodhpur, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions also received widespread rainfall ranging from 10 mm to 90 mm.The Met office has forecast light to moderate rain on Monday, with rainfall activity expected to intensify from Tuesday. Heavy rain is likely at several places in the Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota and Ajmer divisions, which could further improve the state’s seasonal rainfall figures.
