Waste mgmt review meeting stresses stricter enforcement, public participation

Jaipur: The state govt has signalled stricter enforcement of waste management rules across the urban areas. On Friday, Department of Local Self-Govt secretary Ravi Jain directed civic bodies to ensure full compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and warned everyone against any laxity in implementation. The review meeting, held via video conferencing, was attended by officials from urban local bodies across the state. The focus remained on ensuring segregation of waste at source, enforcing norms for bulk waste generators, and implementing colour-coded waste bins on the ground. Jain instructed officials to take action against violations, including imposing user charges and penalties where required. He also gave directions that all actions taken under the waste management rules be documented with photographs and detailed reports, and submitted within the stipulated timeline so that the state’s progress can be accurately presented before higher authorities. The secretary emphasised the need to strengthen public awareness through information, education and communication activities to ensure wider adoption of the new rules. The meeting also reviewed preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. Civic bodies have been asked to maximise citizen participation in feedback processes by running focused outreach campaigns. Jain stressed that the success of cleanliness efforts depends on active public involvement and called for engaging schools, colleges, and community groups to turn it into a broader people’s movement.
