Teachers flag exam duty disruptions in govt schools

Jaipur: Govt school teachers in Jaipur have opposed the routine use of schools for non-academic work, saying recruitment exams scheduled in July could keep campuses closed for nearly 15 days and cut into teaching time. They said the early start to the academic session in April this year would be offset by such disruptions, leaving the effective number of teaching days nearly unchanged from last year.State president of Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Rashtriya) Ramesh Pushkarna said, “During summer break, school teachers were occupied with Census-related work and once schools reopen, many teachers will be occupied in conducting various recruitment exams. Due to this, schools will also have to be shut and almost 12-15 days of teaching days will be affected in almost all district headquarters.”Teachers said that in Jaipur district, around 5,000 teachers are likely to be involved for LDC exam, which will be held on July 5, followed by Senior Teacher (Grade-II) exam, which will be held from July 12-18. For the Senior Teacher exam, approximately 14,000 teachers are likely to stay away from classrooms for duties assigned to conduct the exams.“For every exam, schools are shut down for three days, which includes the day prior to and after the exam and the day of the exam. In this whole process, ultimately students suffer because classroom teaching gets affected. We have discussed with district administrations several times to use college buildings too as exam centres, so that the burden is not completely on govt schools, but only school campuses are used,” added Pushkarna.
