Jaipur/Jhunjhunu: There was no respite from scorching heat conditionsfor the sixth consecutive day on Monday as majority of places in Rajasthan logged maximum temperatures above normal. Pilani remained the hottest in the state, with a maximum temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius recorded.Western parts of the state reeled undersevere heat wave conditions, with most areas recording maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.People in Jaipur woke up to the hottest morning of the season so far, with a minimum temperature of 32°C, almost 4.3 degrees above normal. It was followed by the hottest afternoon of the season, with a maximum temperature of 44.6°C, almost 3 degrees above normal. Post 11am, roads appeared to be deserted as people confined themselves to their homes or offices. Civic authorities continued to sprinkle water from anti-smog gun in various areas of the Walled City. Similar conditions prevailed in Fathepur, Churu, Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu, where small shopkeepers preferred to stay at home. It was a curfew-like situation in markets across the state during the afternoon. At places like Fatehpur, Churu and Bikaner, people were buying ice to cool down water for taking a bath. Continued heat wave conditions have also affected drinking water supply on the outskirts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Dausa, and Bharatpur districts, according to reports.The Met office here said that though dust storms and rainfall are likely in some parts of Udaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, and Jaipur divisions, they won’t be enough to provide relief from the scorching heat conditions. Except for Udaipur, where a maximum temperature of 39.4°C, and Sirohi, where a maximum temperature of 39°C was recorded, most places in the state saw maximum temperatures above 41°C.The Met office in its forecast said no respite is likely, as severe heat wave conditions in western districts and heat wave conditions in other places are likely to continue for the next couple of days.
