Jaipur: Rajasthan University student representative Shubham Rewar Thursday began an indefinite hunger strike, protesting the alleged lathi-charge on students during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ demonstration in Delhi.

Rewar started the fast at 5pm after participating in a student protest at Jawahar Circle earlier in the day. He alleged that the voices of students were being suppressed and described the police action at Jantar Mantar as an attack on the dignity of country’s youth.

“Until the students receive justice, I will continue this indefinite hunger strike,” Rewar said.Earlier in the day, hundreds of students gathered at Jawahar Circle and staged a protest despite not having police permission. They raised slogans demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.In the evening, NSUI members also demonstrated at the main gate of Rajasthan University, reiterating the demand for the Union minister’s resignation.
