Jaipur: A woman and her son died of electrocution inside their home in Baran district Sunday. The incident occurred around 7am in Anta town when 32-year-old Shivraj received an electric shock while drying his wet clothes on an iron wire. His mother, 55-year-old Kanti Bai, rushed to save him but was also electrocuted. After the deaths, villagers gathered at the Anta hospital to protest, demanding compensation. They said Shivraj, an auto driver, was the family’s only source of income and that his elderly father was now left without support. Villagers held the electricity dept responsible, claiming an 11 kV high-voltage wire running over the house caused the household wiring to overload. They refused to take the bodies for cremation until officials promised compensation. Sub-divisional officer Satyanarayan Sharma and assistant engineer Kamlesh Meena from the electricity dept met the villagers and gave an assurance. Only then did the family agree to take the bodies back for the last rites. tnn
