Kota: A 65-year-old woman suffering from oral cavity cancer allegedly died after oxygen supply was disrupted due to a power failure at Bundi district govt hospital late Wednesday night.Family members alleged negligence by authorities and created a ruckus in the hospital. However, hospital authorities denied there was any disruption in oxygen supply, claiming that it was maintained through a centralised system which had nothing to do with power failure.Shantibai Mali, 65, a resident of Matunda village near Bundi city, suffered from oral cavity cancer and was admitted to the female medical ward in district hospital Tuesday evening. Her family claimed that Shantibai was in normal condition Wednesday night and she ate fruits. They alleged her condition suddenly deteriorated after a failure in power supply in the hospital at around 11pm which allegedly caused disruption in oxygen supply.“The patient died in deep pain due to supply disruption caused by power failure at the hospital. We called the medical staff and requested them to start the generator, but they came after half-an-hour,” a family member, present in the hospital, was heard saying in a video clip shot on the spot. However, Dr Laxminarayan Meena, principal medical officer of the hospital, refuted allegations of negligence and disruption in oxygen supply, claiming that the supply was maintained through a centralised system that remains unaffected by power failure. “Besides Mali, there were other patients on the ventilator in the ward. If there was disruption in supply, they too would have been affected and complained of their deteriorating condition,” he said. But Meena admitted there was power disruption for around an hour and that the generator failed to start automatically. An electrician on duty was called to repair the same. The joint director of the hospital had sought a factual report on the matter which would be submitted later in the evening, he said. Police said the family of Mali has not levelled any charges in writing.
