Jaipur: Food safety officials seized more than 10,000 cans of caffeinated beverages during an inspection at GRS Enterprises in Bassi Industrial Area on Tuesday over alleged misleading labelling.The team collected three samples from Red Bull Energy Drink, Campa Energy and Predator Energy, and seized the remaining stock. The seized consignment comprised 4,928 cans of Campa Energy, 3,608 cans of Predator Energy and 1,512 cans of Red Bull Energy Drink.Chief medical and health officer (Jaipur II), Dr Manish Mittal, said the action was taken in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India norms.According to FSSAI, labels carrying claims such as “stimulates mind”, “energises body”, “energy drink”, “sports drink” and “healthy drink” may amount to misleading promotion. The regulator issued notices to leading beverage brands over similar claims and sought their responses.Officials said caffeinated beverages with high caffeine content could pose health risks to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children.The samples will be sent to the Public Health Laboratory in Jaipur for analysis. Further action will be taken after the test reports are received.
