Jaipur/Jhunjhunu: The revival of the southwest monsoon brought heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Rajasthan Tuesday, disrupting normal life and affecting railway operations in Sikar, which recorded the state’s highest rainfall of 100mm.Several residential and commercial localities in Sikar were inundated after the intense spell. Waterlogging stretched across nearly two kilometre, with the water level reportedly rising to four feet at some places, causing difficulties for residents and commuters.Heavy waterlogging was also reported in the yard of Sikar railway station, affecting train operations. Some trains were partially cancelled due to the accumulation of rainwater and operational difficulties.Heavy rainfall was also recorded in Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur and parts of Jaipur from Monday evening. Though the downpour caused widespread waterlogging, it brought relief from the prevailing heat and is expected to benefit standing kharif crops.In Jaipur, moderate rainfall began late Monday evening and continued overnight at several places until Tuesday morning. The weather remained pleasant, with the city recording a maximum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius.According to the Jaipur Met Centre, widespread light to moderate rainfall occurred in eastern Rajasthan, with isolated places receiving heavy rain. A few places in western Rajasthan also received light to moderate showers.After Sikar, Nawalgarh in Jhunjhunu recorded 90mm rainfall, followed by Shahabad in Baran with 80mm. Jhunjhunu, Bari and Basedi received 70mm each, while Saipau and Dholpur recorded 50mm each.Baswa, Kathumar, Chomu, Shahpura, Rajgarh, Srimadhopur and Bayana received 40mm each. Neem Ka Thana and Laxmangarh recorded 30mm each, while several other places received between 10mm and 30mm.The Met office attributed the renewed activity to a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Rajasthan and its neighbourhood, along with the monsoon trough passing through its normal position.Between July 22 and 26, rainfall is likely across the Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain may occur, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.
