Jodhpur police arrests drug trafficker after six years on the run

Jodhpur: A special team of Jodhpur Range police arrested a notorious drug trafficker in Madhya Pradesh Saturday. Disguised as smugglers, the team lured him to a hotel on the pretext of a drug deal and arrested him while he was having tea.The trafficker, Chimaram (30), carried a reward of Rs one lakh and had been absconding for six years.Chimaram was highly cunning, leading other smugglers to auction for his services, with the highest bidder securing a partnership. He expertly evaded the police by accelerating his vehicle to divert their attention and smuggling drug consignments through alternate routes.Inspector general of police (Jodhpur Range) Vikas Kumar stated that the special team arrested Chimaram in a drug smuggling case after six years of evasion. “The accused has 15 cases registered against him in various police stations across Rajasthan. He has been to jail three times and has escaped multiple times after firing at the police. He opened fire on the police in Dhorimanna in 2015, Barmer Sadar in 2016, Nagana in 2018, and in Sumerpur (Pali) and Shiv area (Barmer) in 2019,” Kumar added.Kumar added that Chimaram was extremely skilled at driving, charging between Rs 20,000 to Rs one lakh for delivering drug-laden trucks to their destinations. His expertise led smugglers to hold auctions to secure his services.According to Kumar, the accused relied solely on internet calls and concealed himself in southern states. He conducted smuggling operations using trucks and employed modern weapons. The team monitored one of his associates closely and posed as smugglers to locate him in Madhya Pradesh. On Saturday, the accused was unarmed, which facilitated his successful apprehension. tnn
