Jaipur: Jaipur is set to overhaul the way govt offices get space, with the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Department drafting amendments to the Land Allotment Policy-2025.The proposal replaces the practice of allotting separate land parcels to departments with ready-to-use space in multi-storey office complexes within Jaipur Municipal Corporation area.Officials said the change is driven by shrinking availability of govt land and escalating land prices in the state capital. Instead of each department constructing its own building on a separate plot, multiple offices will function from shared premises.“This will conserve urban land, reduce repetitive construction, improve use of public assets and create administrative hubs. The proposal is at the draft stage and would come into effect by the end of this year,” said an official.The proposed complexes will include designated office areas and common facilities such as parking, meeting rooms, cafeterias, security systems, lifts and washrooms. Space allocation will be determined by the finance department in consultation with the concerned administrative department, based on actual requirements.Departments will not receive permanent ownership or rights over the allotted space. If a department stops using it, the space must be returned to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which can reallot it to another govt department. The provision is intended to prevent public office space from lying vacant or underused.The maintenance of each complex will be handled by a department or agency designated by the finance department. The draft also proposes that the department occupying the largest area may be given priority responsibility for upkeep.“Costs will be shared by all occupants in proportion to their allotted space,” another official said.The amendments may also affect past allotments. The draft states that land earlier granted to departments or institutions can be reviewed if unused, misused or suitable for an office complex. JDA may reclaim such land and refund deposits.
