Ajmer: The Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC) Monday demolished two illegally built houses belonging to two women accused of human trafficking in the hilly region of Longia Mohalla. A team of police personnel was present on the spot to maintain law and order.The police, on June 13, had arrested Afsana and Afreen, both aged 36 and natives of West Bengal, for allegedly selling a 16-year-old. Police said that the accused were acquainted with the girl’s mother. They took the girl to Pushkar, where two persons raped her and later sold her for Rs 32,000 to a Churu-based man (42). The man claimed that he had married the minor and kept her locked in his house. The police arrested four women and three men in this case.Additional SP (City), Himanshu Jangid, was also present during the demolition drive. “Action against the accused is being taken as per the state govt’s directions,” he told TOI. Jangid added that the AMC sought protection during the drive, hence 100 police personnel were deputed at the site.Demolition drive in charge Ramesh H Coudhary said, “We served notices to them and others who had encroached upon govt land. The two accused neither replied to our notices, nor did they furnish any documents, hence the AMC decided to demolish the structures.”Jangid added, “We will conduct a survey of houses in the hilly region on Taragarh Road and remove people residing illegally on govt land. During monsoon, chances of landslides in the region increase, such encroachments can add to the danger, hence we will remove them. We have asked other departments to disconnect electricity and water connections of illegally built houses,” added the AMC official.Meanwhile, DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma, in a circular has warned that all the properties constructed by criminals across the state will be demolished. Ajmer SP Harsh Vardhan Agarwala has directed the personnel to maintain law and order at places where demolition takes place.
